An appositive is a noun that renames another noun without any linking verbs like "to be". An English example would be:

Mr. Navar, the Latin teacher, is going to Convention.

In the sentence "teacher" renames a previous noun, "Mr. Navar". In other words, it tells what he is, but without the verb "to be".
